The Women Building Community (WBC) 20th Annual Mrs. Santa Claus Party held at the Doris Williams Civic Center on December 5th, 2024 was a huge success! The Annual Mrs. Santa Claus Collection drive focuses on filling the needs of families. One change this year that made a big difference was the ability of participants to drop off donations of childcare items such as diapers, baby food, formula and diaper wipes a week ahead of the event. The evening of the party, WBC members and volunteers were on hand at the Civic Center to accept donations and serve refreshments. A great time was had by all!

The 2024 Non-Profits benefitting this year’s donations were Brazosport Cares, The Food Basket, The Mountain on MastersRoad, Pregnancy Help Center, Womens Center Brazoria County, and St. Thomas Center.

WBC is a component fund of the Community Foundation of Brazoria County. For more information Contact CFBC at 979-848-2628 or by emailing cfbr@sbcglobal.net.

Some History: The Mrs. Santa Claus collection party originated when a WBC grant request was received asking for funds to purchase diapers and baby supplies. For many of these organizations, when they receive donations meant for buying food, the funds cannot be used to purchase diapers or other baby items. Of course, diapers are certainly a necessity and very important to mothers with young children. So, WBC, a component fund of the Community Foundation of Brazoria County, decided to help by collecting diapers and baby supplies at their annual Christmas gathering. WBC also awards grants typically totaling $20,000 yearly to Brazoria County non-profit organizations to support women and children. WBC Grants are supported by a large endowment that they have built and will benefit Brazoria County women and children in perpetuity.
